Taste the Rainbow
Please forgive me. I could not hear you over that silence, you know that silence. That silence in between the gun blast and his body hitting the ground?
You know I wonder what was going through his head before the bullet, broke, through.
Trayvon Martin, neighborhood watch list number one, seen lurking down sidewalk, 7:04 pm, at the Retreat, a gated community in Twin Lakes.
You know, good thing the neighborhood watch captain was there, who saw him, followed him, and shot him.
Good thing he shot or the unarmed seventeen-year-old might have committed a crime. The crime, the only crime he could commit, you know the crime of being a black young man walking in the afternoon Miami sun.
You know that 6’0 foot dark-skinned public menace was drinking some iced tea and eating some skittles right before his life of crime was ended even before it began.
You know, I wonder if you can taste the rainbow.
