The new schedule adds an 8th period to be filled with new required classes, and makes blocks longer, to further develop Seattle Academy’s curriculum and advance the school in a new direction. Seniors Avidan Baral, Ben Gode, and Avi Shapiro sat down with Deans of Faculty Alison Ray and Fred Strong to get some answers.

Boys Lacrosse Comes to Seattle Academy

November 08, 2013 in Sports, Visual, SAAS Life

Midfielder Parker Woo '15 dodges a Nathan Hale player in last year's D2 State Championship Game. This will be a special year. This spring, the dynasty of Seattle Academy lacrosse begins. After much work by the Athletic Department and devoted parents, the lax bros of SAAS will finally be able to wear red and white. Some may be asking themselves, “Why is Garfield not just keeping the SAAS players?” This divorce of teams is the result of several factors. SAAS wanted to create a lacrosse team at some point in the next few years, and with a change in policy instituted by the Washington Lacrosse Board, it was a perfect year for SAAS to start up its program. The Garfield lacrosse program was not actually affiliated with Garfield High School, and was comprised mainly of students from private schools around Seattle; none of our starting players from last year went to Garfield. With a new rule introduced by the Board, SAAS players can no longer play for Garfield.

Some could potentially be worried about the quality of play by SAAS lax after losing some incredible seniors (including our goalie) and being separated from the O’Dea players. This would be a huge worry, but fortunately for us, just like we could not play for Garfield any more, U Prep could no longer play for Nathan Hale. We are merging our teams. With a fantastic goalie and other elite players, the players from U Prep will round out our team perfectly. We have large expectations to live up to, after placing second in the state tournament two years in a row, but this year looks promising. With the new program starting, it is a perfect opportunity for new players to try out this exhilarating sport (lacrosse is a great way for teenage boys to be physical like Mother Nature intended). So come out this spring, and give lacrosse a try.
