The SAAS Boys Ultimate team ended a hard fought season finishing 4-6, losing the Emerald City League (ECL) wild card game, and failing to get into the state playoffs. The loss to Bush for the wild card was the last game ever for seniors Tadhg Scully (Captain), Jackson Gode, Josh Brown, Alex Scoggins, Harris McNeil, and Noah Freidman. The boys had a tough season playing in the ECL, the best league in the state. With two new coaches the team had to learn a new style of play and a new method of practicing. SAAS played an underdog role in most of their games, but when the Cardinals were favored they did not disappoint. The team won matches against UPrep and Overlake including one at SAAS Fall Sports Mania. SAAS had close losses to Eastside Prep and Bush both times they faced the two teams. The only team SAAS failed to keep it close against was Northwest. Northwest controlled both matches against SAAS protecting their perfect record. This result is expected of course as Northwest dominated another season finishing with another state title.
For the Cardinals there is lots of optimism going into next season. With a total of six rising seniors returning, as well as five rising juniors, SAAS will have a roster stacked with upperclassmen. The expectations haven’t been this high in years. Both coaches and players expect a run for the league and state titles. With lots of experience coming from players such as Mike Bartell, Logan Chantelois, and Bryce Barton, the Cardinals should have excellent senior leadership with buckets of talent to back it up. Expect great things from next year’s team.
