Seattle Academy Seniors Earn Accolades in ACT Theatre’s Young Playwrights Program

On December 8 Seattle Academy seniors Madeleine Le and Dylan Mortimer were two of eight students to earn recognition for their play writing in ACT Theatre’s Young Playwrights Program (YPP).  Madeleine, Dylan, and classmates worked with local playwright and teaching artist Kelleen Conway Blanchard over the fall trimester to write full-length plays in James Watson’s senior English elective, “Seattle Academy Playwrights.”

Dylan and Madeleine submitted their plays “Family Business” and “The Doctor of Aoi Dai” to ACT Theatre to compete in the YPP playwriting contest. Over the next few months, Dylan and Madeleine will be working with professional directors and actors to produce staged reading of their plays in ACT Theatre’s Festival of Young Playwrights in March.

Seniors David Solovy, Sarah Rost, Stella Sangster, and Khari Stewart also won honorable mentions at the YPP Celebration.

On Tuesday, December 16, at noon in the Black Box Theatre, Dylan Mortimer and Stella will present staged readings of their award-winning plays "Family Business" and "Maude Doing Things."
